Sciatica

The term sciatica describes the symptoms of leg pain and possibly tingling, numbness or weakness that travels from the low back through the buttock and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of the leg. The clinical diagnosis of sciatica is referred to as a “radiculopathy,” which means simply that a disc has protruded from its normal position in the vertebral column and is putting pressure on the radicular nerve (nerve root) in the lower back, which forms part of the sciatic nerve.

An important thing to understand is that sciatica is a symptom of a problem — of something compressing or irritating the nerve roots that comprise the sciatic nerve — rather than a medical diagnosis or medical disorder in and of itself. This is an important distinction because it is the underlying diagnosis (vs. the symptoms of sciatica) that often needs to be treated in order to relieve sciatic nerve pain.

Chiropractic adjustments along with muscular rehab are very successful in the correction and relief of sciatica.

Testimonial

I just wanted to share a patient testimonial.  J  has been a patient of ours for a couple of months.  He never misses his appointments!  He’s definitely an outstanding patient! He had low back pain and knee pain for a few years. Here is what he had to say : ” Before coming to Heuser, I was always in pain and tired.  I never had a lot of energy and never thought it had to do with my spine.  When I came in for my first time, everyone was very nice and helpful.  When I saw my x-rays, I was really shocked at how bad off I really was.  Since, I have been coming to Heuser, I have had ton more energy and am waking up more refreshed.  It has amazed me the difference from before my first treatment until now.”  This is the very reason why I love what I do as a Chiropractor….we change lives everyday!!! Our patients have a better quality of life and preventative care to keep them healthy for the future.  Get adjusted!!!!!

Quick Fix vs. Rehabilitative Care

Posted by fseblog on Jun 13, 2011 in Auto Accident, Blog, Personal Injury | 0 comments

After an auto accident there will be many things to take care of, don’t let your health be the last on that list.  When you have pain after an accident there are many structures that have possibly been damaged including bones, muscles, ligaments, and nerves.  Damage to these body parts can cause severe pain and/or numbness making it hard for you to work or perform daily tasks.  Many people think that if they just rest the pain and damage will go away.  You may have even been given pain medication by your primary care doctor or at the hospital, it is still important to have your spine evaluated by a skilled chiropractor.  There can be underlying problems and issues that can make the chances of the problem self-resolving impossible.  Chiropractic care will get you back on the road to recovery.  While getting out of pain may be your only goal initially, a quick fix will not give you the benefit of long lasting rehabilitative/corrective care.
